5th & 6th Grade

About the Class
We believe that education is always more than just learning skills, it is learning a way of life. At its core, Classical Christian Education (CCE) is not about telling students what to learn but instead training them to be learners who reason clearly, think critically, and speak eloquently. We desire to teach students to love great books, appreciate beautiful art, and cherish the history of the Western Civilization Tradition.
5th and 6th grade at Abiding Savior Academy gives your child the opportunity to participate in a Christ Centered learning environment. In the classroom, instruction occurs centering on the principle that God is the Creator of all that exists, and therefore all knowledge is interrelated and points back to Him. Biblical standards of conduct are applied in all areas of classroom life, acknowledging that Jesus Christ is Lord of all. Our classroom teacher has high expectations for student learning. Students learn to love the subjects that are taught and cheerfully follow the godly example represented by their teacher. Our small classroom environment allows your student’s teacher to know and serve your student on an individual basis. Your student will know they are loved, encouraged, and uplifted in prayer.
Our classroom teacher utilizes her student’s God-given strengths at each stage of growth to help them learn. The 5th and 6th grade students are in their final years of the grammar stage of learning. They are still naturally adept at memorizing through songs, chants, and jingles yet their ability to research, reason, and discern truth are beginning to come alive. The classroom continually encourages students to develop skills to equip them to be lifetime learners. Our small class size allows our teacher to work with students individually and as a group to reach their goals.
5th grade students will be working through their third year of Latin. Latin is an orderly and precise language, it offers students a beautiful grasp on the intricate workings of language. It awakens students to the birth of many words in our English language as well as gives them a base to the beginnings of the romance languages. The Latin language cultivates knowledge of purposeful communication and helps students understand the power of words and how to best use them to the glory of God.
Bible classes are taught by both the classroom teachers and a Bible instructor. Students participate in weekly Chapel with the Kindergarten through 8th grades. Chapel is led by the Abiding Savior Pastoral staff. Students participate in Specials’ classes offered twice a week in the areas of PE, Music and Art. Keyboarding and computer skills are taught within the classroom.
Our curriculum choices for our 5th and 6th grade students vary by subject. Curricula is carefully chosen based on the value to the student both academically and spiritually.
